Prabal Gurung Spring 2014 Dress Inspired Mani

Hey y'all!  I saw this dress while browsing Pinterest one night and it completely inspired me to do some matching nail art.

Source Style.com

For this, I used Zoya Pixie Dust polishes in Dahlia and Stevie along with a black and a white polish.  This was super easy and quick to do.

I brushed 2 layers of Stevie onto the top half of my nails & then Dahlia onto the bottom half sort of overlapping and using the brush to drag a little of it over Stevie.

For my accent nail, I used Sinful Colors Snow Me White and a coat of Seche Vite.  Once that was dry, I taped the middle strip off and used the same method with the Pixie Dusts.  In order to do this quickly, so the tape didn't pull any of the texture polish off, I placed my finger in front of a fan for a few seconds to let it dry enough to apply more than one coat of each for opacity.  Then I just took a tiny brush and drew strips on the sides with Wet N Wild Black Creme.

What do y'all think?  I really love it.

Easy Silver Prom Nails & #TBT

Hey y'all!  Today I have a mani and a Throwback Thursday post all in one.  I'm not 100% sure when prom's start, but I figure it's soon.  So, I'm going to tell y'all a little about mine. :D

I graduated in 1997(I know I'm old :p) My boyfriend at the time was way older & I didn't start dating him until after they stopped selling tickets.  So, I went with my best friend and we shared her date.  For her privacy, I cut her out of the pics.  As you can tell, she wore a red dress, so we were completely patriotic.  Mine was a blue velvet like material & oddly was only around $10.  I also wore it to my Military Ball that year.  Yes, I was in AFJROTC.  At the time, my hair was down almost to my booty and IDK how many bobby pins my hairdresser put in there to keep it up, but it was a LOT.

I almost didn't even go.  Honestly, the only reason I even went is because another friend paid for my ticket and told me she'd kick my buttocks if I didn't.  So we went and had a little fun, leaving shortly after the senior walk.  The 3 of us were 18 or older, so we went to change and headed to the club where I used to practically live from 18-23ish.

Now to my nails.  I can't remember exactly how I had them done, but it was one of the ways below...so I did both.  I did silver to match my shoes.  Also, yes even back then I was obsessed with nail polish and HAD to have pretty nails. They even looked at me funny when I explained how I wanted them & after they LOVED it.

I'm thinking they were more like the accent nail.  The only difference is they were not only way longer, but it was just plain silver glitter....not silver holo.

What I used:

For 3 of the fingers, I used Sally Hansen Insta-Dri in Silver Sweep and freehanded Models Own Juicy Jules onto the tips.

For the accent nail, I used Nabi Sheer Red as a base, to kinda give my natural nail a little color.  Then I used tape to section off the tip to brush on Silver Sweep and Juicy Jules to the tip.

This was really quick and easy.  Plus, I think the holo glitter makes it better.  If you went to prom, what did your nails look like?

Red Velvet Mary Janes & Polka Dot Tights

Hey y'all!  I've recently been finding inspiration for nail art from pretty much everything on Pinterest.  The day I sat down to do this mani I opened it and saw a pin of some red velvet looking mary jane heels with polka dot tights.  I couldn't find a good link for them, it went to Shoemint, but they weren't listed.  If you search for red mary janes on Pinterest, you'll find the one I'm talking about.

I used all Wet N Wild polishes for this mani.  2% Milk is the base, Black Creme for the polka dots, and I Red A Good Book for the tips.  Finished it off with a coat of Seche and done.

I think it's gorgeous as is, but I had to slap on Butter London Matte Finish to make it look almost velvety like the picture.

Looking at this, I really want to do this to my toes.

What do y'all think?

Finger Paints Retro Stripes

**Press Samples**

Hey y'all!  So yesterday I showed y'all some of the new(ly formulated) FingerPaints polishes which you can see HERE, if you missed it.  Today I have a quick tape mani that I did with them.

I knew I wanted a white base & wasn't sure about the color combo, but went with it anyway.

For this, I used Well-Cultured Pearl(base), Art Nouveau Nectarine, and MichelTangelo.   I used Seche Vite to quickly dry each color in between and used tape to make the lines as straight as possible.

I think these colors worked really well together, what about you?

FingerPaints™ retails for $5.29, less if you're a beauty club member, at Sally's Beauty Supply and SallyBeauty.com.  Also, I noticed that some of these colors are not yet listed on the website so if they're not available now they should be available in March 2014.

Also, FYI....Finger Paints are currently(Feb 2014) BOGO Free at Sally's.

Note: The products in this post were provided for a 100% honest review.

Pregnancy & Infant Loss Awareness Day - mani included

I told y'all at the beginning of the month there would be a few serious posts this month.  This is another one.  I'm also opening up a little and talking about something that even some of my friends don't know about me.

I'm going to show the mani first, for those who may not want to read my story.  The colors are pink and blue, most ribbons show this as pastel colors, but I wanted to use a little bit of both.

This is what I used along with a picture of my 5 year old when he was in Pre-K(last year).  Left to Right:  China Glaze Fly, China Glaze Sky High-Top, Sally Hansen Insta Dri Blue-Away, and a no brand pink from a BBB gift set.

I started off with 2 coats of Fly, a quick dry top coat, and then taped some lines to apply Sky High-Top.  I did kinda mess up a little, but it's all good.

Then I took Blue-Away and the pink made some blobs on a laminated card & drew lines using a dotting tool (I really need to get a brush similar to yet shorter than a striper brush).  I put blue over the pink and pink over the blue.  It's not perfect, but again I'm ok with that.

For some reason lately, my Sally Hansen Insta Dri top coat has been bubbling.  I put thinner in it and it was fine, until I'd used it several times and it started bubbling up again.  This mani isn't perfect, but NOBODY and NOTHING is.  It's ok to have set backs, but it's how you handle them that defines who you are.

Now, to the story.......

I, Harriett, have been affected by the loss of a pregnancy.  In 2002, just before Mothers Day, I found out I was pregnant.  It wasn't planned, but I was excited.  I've always loved kids and there have always been small children in my family.  I grew up babysitting my younger siblings, my cousins, and my hairstylists kids.  I was craving chocolate & ice cream like crazy.  I went to the store and bought $60 worth of ice cream.  No lie.

It was kinda difficult to tell my family, but they took it a lot better than I thought they would.  Even my Granny.  I went to my doctors & was informed I was due just after the new year, 1/03/03.  I was gaining weight and doing great.  NO morning sickness what-so-ever.

Ten weeks into my pregnancy, I started spotting and called my doctor.  I went in for tests and waited for the results.  Unfortunately, I didn't get the results because just a few days later on June 15th, it was worse.  I didn't freak, but had my mom call 911.  The EMT's were wonderful and we joked around about how hard it was to get an IV in me.  Just before we got to the hospital I saw the Hot Sign on at Krispy Kreme and wished I'd had a phone to call my mom and tell her to go get me some.  I don't think I'd realized yet what was happening.  That is, until I got into the ER and they switched me over to a bed and off the stretcher.  I think I'd left a few pints on the stretcher and knew then it was bad.

My mom, and the childs father were there then my dad, step-mom(long story, but she raised me with my dad), & her husband showed up for support.  I was in excruciating pain, talking them to keep my mind off of it.  I was about to cuss someone out if they didn't get me something for the pain.  They couldn't even do an ultrasound because I was in so much pain and couldn't stay still.  Finally they gave me something which made me sick and made me pass out.  My nurse was someone I'd gone to school with, but couldn't remember for some reason.  She was wonderful and tried to get me to squeeze her hand even though she had a brace on it.  I woke up the next morning wondering where I was.  At the age of 23, I had my first overnight hospital visit and was really confused.

I was finally able to go have an ultrasound done and later got the bad news.  The baby was stuck in my tubes and never went any further, meaning my pregnancy was ectopic aka tubal.  Fathers Day, and I'm telling this man that he's not going to be a father again(this would've been his 2nd child) and telling my dad he's not going to be a grandfather just yet.  My dad was so sweet, he brought me my favorite drink from Starbucks in a mug that I still have.  I followed up with my OB and was informed they were going to do something new and give me a pill rather than a DNC.  It was an outpatient procedure, and one I went through alone.

A few weeks later, on July 4th, I was at a BBQ and started having pains again.  The "man" I was with thought I was faking and trying to get attention and ignored me.  Most of my family was already at the ER with my aunts(by marriage) dad.  The only other person with me besides myself that could drive was my step-mom's husband(he's like a father to me too), so he took me.  I was down the hall from where family was in a room, being poked & prodded for blood tests & iv's.  The nurse from my previous visit saw my mom and the rest of my family and came to check on me.  The doctors weren't sure what was going on, so they told me to follow up.

My step-dad, as I call him, took me to that appointment so that I didn't have to drive in pain.  Ultimately, the doctor had to do a DNC.  It was extremely painful, but went almost fully away afterwards.  It took me a while to heal & during that time I broke up with the guy for various reasons.

I was so fortunate to have family and friends who cared.  Even one, who is now my SO, who took me out on HIS birthday and got me completely trashed.  It took a lot of strength, a lot of crying on the shoulders of friends & family, and time to heal.  I've never fully gotten over it, but it's gotten easier with time......unless I'm constantly reminded of it I tend not to think of it.  Yes, I should have an 8 year old child, but I have a wonderful 5(almost 6) year old boy who depends on me.  He is my life.  Nothing else matters.  Because of my previous miscarriage, I waited until I was through the first trimester to tell people I was pregnant with my lil boy.  I didn't want to disappoint a whole bunch of people and myself all over again.

I always say things happen for a reason, and once I got the help I needed, I moved on with my life.  When something happens, and you continue to wallow around you'll NEVER fully recover and move on....from ANYthing in life.

I know I'm not the only one who's been through this, but if you have and you're not seeking help you should.  That's just my opinion.  There will be some links below for resources regarding Pregnancy & Infant Loss Awareness Day, as well as info on these sights about how to get support.  I fully believe that if I hadn't gotten support/help I'd probably be a full blown alcoholic with a severely damaged liver.

I hope this helps someone understand they're not alone and enlightens those who've not been through this before about what can happen.

Sally Hansen Hi-Res and some fun with tape!

This pretty pink is Sally Hansen HD Hi-Res.  I purchased it a while back on clearance at Target.  It's soooo pretty.

I put this on very late at night and didn't take pictures until the next morning.

It's a beautiful color, but I was in a funky mood and got bored with it quick.  SO, I grabbed my Sally Hansen Marine Scene (I think that's how it's spelled) and played around with some tape.

It could've looked better, but that's the first time I did the small strips of tape.  I need to get some smaller scissors or some of the craft ones with the decorative edges.

HAPPY MOTHERS DAY!!! (mani included)

I'm writing this on Friday so I can chillax this weekend.

This morning, I had Muffins With Mom at my son's Pre-K.  I'm not including a pic of the both of us because after 5-6 hours of sleep I looked horrible.  The teacher took a pic of us together and for some reason my face was extremely red.

So, to stand in for me, here's a pic of Hunter and the pic he colored of me....

Why, I have brown hair I dunno....and purple facial features.  LoL
Then we had muffin's and drinks.....milk for me and OJ for him and I got my next present...
He likes making crazy faces.  His favorite color is yellow, so that's why I got a yellow flower.  The base is made of painted popcorn kernels.  I think it's adorable, even if it is yellow.  And here's a scan of the card it holds....

I think it's absolutely adorable.  He got one of my fav colors right and knows I like to watch college football!!  It was so sweet.

Now, to the mani pics I promised.  I haven't done this on my right hand yet, as I was up late last night watching tv and working on my left hand.  I plan to finish it later today so it's ready for the weekend..

I started off with 2 coats of China Glaze Electra Magenta as a base, then China Glaze For Audrey and Essie Little Brown Dress with scotch tape.  I have room for improvement with this, but I think it's cute.  Though now I'm thinking I should've used a different color than For Audrey.

I hope all of you mothers out there are having a wonderful day and are getting spoiled.

Zoya Phoebe & Lolly Fun (pic spam)

I had fun playing with the two of these.  When I got these during the BOGO, I also ordered Remove+ to try it.  Lets just say I <3 that.

I wanted to play with both of these & decided to use them at the same time.  I noticed that Lolly seemed to be a little bit harder to work with than Phoebe, but for my first time with matte's it wasn't a bad experience.  This was the fastest mani EVER.

I used these and alternated fingers with the colors.  I used probably about 3 coats each, but didn't pay much attention to using it carefully as I was just trying to get it on the nail.  I think each coat was dry about 5 seconds after I put the brush back in the bottle & I did each nail separately.

Then I taped the tips off for a french.

I only did the french on my left hand, and just alternate colors on my right hand.

LoL, I was watching movies on Netflix while I did this mani, so I just grabbed something to hold to make sure I could show all the nails.

Then I got bored with it & put a top coat on to see how long it would last.  Everyone's said that the matte alone doesn't last long & chips easily.  I used Sally Hansen Double Duty as a top coat, no base coat at all, & this mani has been on for more than 24 hours with no chipping.

I looked over at my cabinet & noticed I had a frosted pinkish blue shotglass, wish I'd realized it sooner.  So, I took pics holding it and a pink cup from a cruise with the top coat on.

I absolutely LOVE Phoebe.  I wish they had this in a shade that looked just like it does with the topcoat.  A-MA-ZING!  Lolly is cute too and I really don't have many pink's in my collection, so this is a great universal one to add.

I'm still working on my clean-up skills.  All of the pics were taken before I attempted to clean-up the mess in case I jacked them up.  Fortunately, I didn't.  However, I did get less polish on my skin than I used to.  So at least that's getting better.

Purple Patchwork - Starring: Yasmeen, Kieko, & Marley!!

OK, I was going to save this to post later, but I can't.  This is my first patchwork mani.  Of course this is inspired by the blog Chloe's Nails.  She does wonderful things with scotch tape.

I will warn you that the pics look a little bad because of the skin on my fingers.  I forgot to mix the Blue Cross Cuticle Remover with water so I'm having peeling issues with the tips of my fingers for a few days.  I'd planned to take more/better pictures this morning, but that was a no go.  Before I went to sleep, I put some vaseline on my fingers then put some gloves on so it didn't get anywhere.  BIG mistake.  Apparently my nails weren't completely dry yet, and so the middle of each nail from top to bottom is ruined with a funky type texture.

I started off with my Sinful Colors base coat & 2 coats of Zoya Yasmeen.  I marked off a square using scotch tape & painted Zoya Kieko.

Then, I marked off a square opposite Kieko on each nail & painted Marley.

I really wish I hadn't messed it up royally.  At least it gives me an excuse to play with more Zoya.  I really love the way Kieko matches Yasmeen perfectly, IMO.
